Are you just one decision away from a life you’ve dreamed of?

You only need to change course by one degree to end up at a completely different destination. ~ E James Rohn

I love this quote.  I have shared this quote time and time again over the years, and in particular, in my counselling practice when I had an overwhelmed client sitting in front of me who didn’t know where or how to start putting their life back together after a breakup or a loss.

It’s brought me endless hope and comfort to know that one degree can make such a big difference.  One step at a time.  One decision at a time.  One act at a time.

Today I heard this:

You’re one decision away from a totally different life. ~ Tim Han

One degree.  One decision.  Completely different destination.  Totally different life.

Eight years ago I decided to turn a pdf into a printed book.  It started as a thought.  But then I decided to act on it and explore the options.

That one decision caused me to change course by one degree, and as I gathered information and explored further, I changed course by another degree, then another, and one degree at a time, one step at a time, I ended up at a completely different destination, and I now have a totally different life.

It’s a surreal experience to see in hindsight how one decision can manifest in your life.

Becoming an author is a long-held dream for many people, and until not so long ago, most aspiring authors had a one-in-a-million chance of becoming published.  But with modern technology, that has all changed.

I get so excited about the opportunities that are available to authors today.  First it was Amazon Kindle and ebooks which opened up a world of digital self-publishing.  Then came print-on-demand, also with Amazon and then IngramSpark, and other platforms have followed with their user-friendly print platforms, and they’ve brought opportunities for authors to self-publish print books at little or no cost.

No longer does an author need to jump through hoops to get noticed by a publisher.  Nor are they at the mercy of an editor or publisher who could determine whether or not they were good enough to become a published author.

Now, if someone decides they want to become an author, they can do it, and it’s not that hard to do.  They get to decide if their story is worthy of being published.  They get to decide how they will deliver their message to the world.  They get to decide when and how they want their experience to be shared.  The author’s fete is no longer in someone else’s hands.

Viva la publishing revolution.
