A couple of weeks ago I shared some insight into writing and publishing a book to give you a realistic idea of what to expect should you decide to write and publish your own book. 

This week I want to talk to you about another truth: you are going to have a lot of competition and you will need to be realistic.

The fact is, there are millions of books on the market, especially now that authors have access to Amazon Kindle and print-on-demand.  I guarantee that what you want to write about has already been written about many times, from many different perspectives.

I love this quote.  I have shared this quote time and time again over the years, and in particular, in my counselling practice when I had an overwhelmed client sitting in front of me who didn’t know where or how to start putting their life back together after a breakup or a loss.

It’s brought me endless hope and comfort to know that one degree can make such a big difference.  One step at a time.  One decision at a time.  One act at a time.

The Purposeful Author: Why an Author needs to be intentional about his writing.

As a self-published author, I know what a difference being published can make. Firstly, to the author – in terms of their self-esteem and the confidence they develop around their experience and the value they bring to their world – and secondly, to their readers who, of course, benefit from the content shared in a book – whether it be shared for entertainment or for educational purposes.

I first published 8 years ago when the 2nd biggest print-on-demand company was just 1 year old. Since then I have helped more than 200 authors aged between 8 and 78 to become published and many of them I have worked with on several occasions, which has been enormous fun.

The Truth About Writing and Publishing a Book (Part I)

Do you want to know the real truth about writing and publishing a book?

Writing and publishing a book takes effort.  It can be hard work.  There I said it!  It’s not the glamorous, inspired, get-in-the-flow-and-glide-through-life lifestyle we all like to think it will be.

Words rarely fall out of people and land perfectly on a page in a way that moves readers like they’ve never been moved before.  To have an impact like that takes time and effort, planning and skill.

And there are many things that need to be done to become a successfully published author, many of which are a huge surprise to most first-time authors.
